ElevenLabs Pricing Explained: Which Plan Is Actually Worth It

ElevenLabs has six pricing tiers and a wall of feature checkmarks, and the page does a very good job of making you feel like you should probably pick an expensive one. You probably should not. Here is what each plan actually gets you, and which one is right for normal people.
The plans, in plain English
Free — $0/month, 10,000 credits. About 10 minutes of audio. Core text-to-speech, voice design, 3 Studio projects. No commercial use, no voice cloning. Great for testing, not for shipping.
Starter — $6/month, 30,000 credits. This is the one most people actually need. It unlocks the commercial license (you can use the audio in monetized content), instant voice cloning, 20 Studio projects, and the Dubbing Studio. If you are a solo creator putting voiceovers on videos, start here.
Creator — $22/month (often 50% off your first month, so ~$11 to start), 121,000 credits. The jump here is Professional Voice Cloning (the high-accuracy clone of your own voice) plus a lot more credits — about two hours of audio. This is the sweet spot for serious podcasters, audiobook narrators, and anyone cloning a voice properly.
Pro — $99/month, 500,000 credits. Roughly 10 hours of audio, higher-quality output (44.1kHz PCM via API, 192kbps audio). This is for people producing at volume or building on the API.
Scale & Business — $330 and up. Team and enterprise territory. If you need these, you already know.
Which one should you actually pick?
Cutting through it:
- Just testing? Free.
- Making content that earns money (YouTube, clients, a product)? Starter, $6. Do not overthink it.
- Cloning your own voice or narrating long-form? Creator, $22 (grab the first-month discount).
- Producing at volume or via API? Pro, $99.
The honest advice: start one tier lower than you think you need. Credits roll with the plan, and it is trivial to upgrade the moment you run out. Most people who think they need Creator are fine on Starter for months.
One thing to watch
Credits are consumed by generation, and re-generating counts. If you are a perfectionist who regenerates every line five times, you will burn through a tier faster than the “minutes of audio” math suggests. Budget for that.
