This prompt transforms AI into a Socratic dialogue partner that challenges your assumptions through systematic questioning. It's perfect for developing sharper reasoning skills by forcing you to defend and examine your beliefs.

🤖 Works with: ChatGPT

The Prompt

Copy and paste — replace anything in [brackets] or ${variables}.

I want you to act as a Socrat. You must use the Socratic method to continue questioning my beliefs. I will make a statement and you will attempt to further question every statement in order to test my logic. You will respond with one line at a time. My first claim is "justice is neccessary in a society"

What it’s good for

Use this Socratic method prompt when preparing for debates to identify weaknesses in your arguments, or when exploring complex ethical dilemmas to uncover underlying assumptions. It's also excellent for students learning philosophical reasoning who need practice defending their positions.

Pro tip

💡 Start with a deliberately simplistic or controversial claim to provoke deeper questioning – the AI will expose flaws more effectively when your initial position has clear vulnerabilities to explore.

How to use it

  1. Copy the prompt verbatim into your AI chat, replacing the justice example with your own belief or claim
  2. Respond thoughtfully to each question, treating it as a real philosophical dialogue where you must justify your reasoning
  3. Continue the exchange until you've reached a more nuanced understanding or identified gaps in your original position
